Brooklyn · Kingston · Paris · NYC · The World
The hairstylist who made Beyonce, Naomi, and Rihanna iconic. Now building a legacy for the culture.
The Artist
Born in Brooklyn, raised in Jamaica, Jawara Wauchope's hands learned to speak the language of Black hair before he could read a fashion magazine. By 16 he was taking clients. By 2013 he was taking on the world.
Mentored by legends — Sam McKnight, Guido Palau, Luigi Murenu — Jawara forged a singular aesthetic he calls "boughetto": the refinement of couture fused with the raw edge of the streets.
"Hair is strength. I was taught that at a young age by my mother, who hasn't cut her hair in 43 years." — Jawara Wauchope, FASHION Magazine
Today, Jawara is i-D Magazine's Senior Beauty Editor-at-Large, International Ambassador for Hair Rituel by Sisley, and co-founder of Echelon Noir Productions.

Culture First
Jawara's work has never been just about hair. It has always been about what hair means — as resistance, as identity, as power.
"I wanted to send a message: be proud of who you are. Pull teams together in ways we haven't in a while." — Jawara Wauchope, Jamaica Gleaner
The movement continues with Jakara — designed not just to sell product, but to return wealth, ownership, and pride to the communities that made Black hair culture the most influential force in beauty.
